Drug Awareness Programme

June 26 is International Drug Eradication Day. It has been observed annually on June 26 since 1989.

The International Drug Eradication Program 2022 was held at the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology (PKIET), (A constituent college of the Puducherry Technological University) in association with the Karaikal District Police and the NSS unit of PKIET. 

Dr. M. Aramudhan, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Information Technology welcomed the Chief Guests and the gathering.

Karaikal District Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. R. Lokeswaran addressed the function. The ceremony was held in the presence of Karaikal District Superintendent of Police Mr. Nithin Ramesh and Thirunallar Superintendent of Police Mr. Arivuchelvam.

Karaikal District Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. R. Lokeswaran informed the gathering that the school children and college students are increasingly addicted to this habit. According to the study, about 2 lakh 50 thousand people die every year due to drug addiction. Everyone should give up this habit that can affect us and those around us and go on the right path in life. 'This Drug Abuse Day' is observed to work against drug abuse and to eradicate drugs. 

Superintendent of Police Mr. Nitin Ramesh while addressing the students said that drug eradication has become a major challenge internationally. Today is the Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and the United Nations says in a statement that people around the world need to be more united and focused on tackling the threat to the lives of millions of people, including young people. The theme of this year's Drug Prevention Day is "Better Care is Better Knowledge".

The UN estimates that about 35.6 million people worldwide are affected by drugs. According to the 2020 World Drug Report released by the Office on Drugs and Crime. Adolescents and adolescents make up a large proportion of drug users, most of whom suffer from HIV, hepatitis C and other related diseases.

The report states that only one in eight people in need of treatment and rehab can get it. Those who need help can approach the office of the Superintendent of Police, he said. More than a hundred faculty, staff and students participated in the event. Dr. M. Damodharan thanked the team and proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Celebration of International Day of Yoga 2022

International Day of Yoga or commonly known as Yoga Day, is celebrated on 21st June every year since its inception in 2015. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in Bharat or India.

NSS Induction Programme - 2022

On 4^th March 2022, the orientation program for 15^th batch NSS Volunteers was inaugurated by our honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Mohan. The Vice chancellor, the Principal, District NSS Program officer, Dept of chemical Engg. (PTU), NSS program officers, staff members and all the first year B.Tech students were present for the orientation programme. During his inaugural address Vice Chancellor recalled his college days & the best volunteer award which he received during his graduation. He mentioned that NSS is one of the best platforms to develop once personality & to learn how to help & do service to humanity. We will also learn how to serve during calamities. Vice Chancellor also emphasized that the NSS unit must adopt a Village and do the best service to bring up the Village in a year.

NSS district coordinator Dr. V. Lakshmanapathi in his speech, he told that NSS teaches us adaptability for community living, they appreciated the services rendered by the unit of PKIET in the past years.

The HOD of chemical engineering Dr. R. Sridhar also address the gathering and guided the students to become good volunteers of NSS.

The best district level NSS volunteer Fedric Rozario of final year ECE also awarded in this function.

After that, National Green Crops – ECO club was also inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor. Dr. R. Sridarane, coordinator of ECO club, Dept of Chemistry has taken initiation to inaugurate the club.

Finally, the NSS program officer Dr. J. Udayakumar, proposed the vote of thanks.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

PKIET – National Service Scheme is functioning as two units with Dr. M. DHAMODARAN, Assistant Professor and Dr. J. UDAYAKUMAR, Assistant Professor as Programme officers. NSS unit is established to give an extension dimension to the higher education and orient the student youth to community service while they are studying at the college with the following main objectives.

• To understand the community in which they work;
• To develop  among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
• To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities;
• To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;
• To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.

As per the Pondicherry University curriculum, all the first year students are enrolled as NSS volunteers and continued up to the end of second year.

Our NSS students participate in various social events and awareness programmes such as
1. Blood Donation camp
2. Orientation and leadership programmes
3. A Special camp at adopted villages
4. National Integration camps
5. Heritage places
6. Environmental awareness programmes
7. Tree Plantation
8. Aware programmes such as AIDS control, Blood Donation, Personal hygiene, Voters awareness etc.,
9. Cleaning of heritage places, campus and adopted villages.
